The Journey Forward
Building a future where autistic professionals thrive, not just survive.
The Journey Forward
I started Atypical 9to5 because I saw a need - a gap in understanding and resources for autistic people in the workplace. As someone who has navigated these challenges myself, I know firsthand the impact of workplaces that aren’t designed with neurodiverse individuals in mind.
Today, only about ten to twenty percent of autistic adults in Europe are employed. For many, the traditional recruitment process feels like an uphill battle. Standard interview formats, unwritten social rules, and the lack of accommodations make it difficult to show their true strengths and capabilities.
The Unique Challenges for Autistic Women in the Workplace
Autistic women, in particular, face additional hurdles in the workplace. Often, they’re held to gendered norms where direct communication is misinterpreted, and requests for quiet spaces are misunderstood. These expectations create barriers that can erode confidence and self-worth. By acknowledging these unique challenges, Atypical 9to5 aims to provide a space where autistic women feel seen, understood, and empowered.
Changing the Narrative, One Story at a Time
Atypical 9to5 exists to shift perceptions, one story at a time. My vision is simple yet powerful: to create a space where autistic talent is celebrated, and where employers and colleagues can access the tools they need to build truly inclusive environments. I want to move beyond “awareness” toward true acceptance and tangible change.
This platform highlights the unique strengths autistic individuals bring to the workplace - not despite their differences, but because of them. Autistic people offer fresh perspectives, keen attention to detail, and innovative approaches. When these strengths are embraced, organizations don’t just become more inclusive - they thrive.
Join the Journey
I invite you to be part of this journey. Whether you’re an autistic professional charting your own path, an employer seeking to foster inclusivity, or an ally eager to learn, there’s a place for you here.
Together, we can create workplaces where neurodiverse individuals don’t just fit in—they thrive. One story at a time.
Warmly,
Rayna
